Harris Yulin, an acclaimed veteran actor who starred in such hit series as “Ozark,” “Veep,” “24” and “Scarface,” among many other TV shows and movies, died Tuesday. He was 87.
Yulin’s family and manager Sue Leibman said the actor died of cardiac arrest in New York City on Tuesday, according to Deadline.
Per Yulin’s IMDb profile, the actor was born on Nov. 5, 1937, in Los Angeles and amassed nearly 140 credits since his screen debut in 1970. In 1983’s Scarface, Yulin played Mel Berstein, a corrupt Miami Police Department who attempts to blackmail Tony Montana (Al Pacino) but ultimately pays the price with his life.
Yulin’s other film credits also include roles in 1989’s Ghostbusters II, the 1994 Jack Ryan (Harrison Ford) movie Clear and Present Danger, the 1995 TV movie Truman opposite Gary Sinise and 1996’s Multiplicity opposite Michael Keaton.
The actor also appeared in the Denzel Washington movies The Hurricane in 1999 and 2001’s Training Day, as well as the 1997 Mr. Bean movie Bean and 2001’s Rush Hour 2.
In his recurring role on Netflix’s Ozark, Yulin played Buddy Dieker, who sells his lake house in the Ozarks to accountant Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy Byrd (Laura Linney), who are on the run from a drug cartel. Buddy, who is terminally ill, is featured in 12 episodes of the first two seasons of the acclaimed crime thriller.

Harris Yulin Was Nominated For An Emmy Award For ‘Frasier’
Harris Yulin appeared in dozens of television roles throughout his 55-year screen career, either in guest roles, recurring roles or as a regular.
In the 1970s, Yulin appeared in guest roles in a number of classic television shows, including Kojak, Barnaby Jones, Little House on the Prairie, S.W.A.T., Police Woman, Ironside, Dynasty and Wonder Woman, and had a recurring role in the TV Western How the West Was Won.
In the ensuing decades, Yulin appeared in guest roles in several more series, including Cagney & Lacey, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, La Femme Nakita, The X-Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Third Watch, Entourage, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Blacklist, Murphy Brown, Billions and FBI: Most Wanted.
Among Yulin’s most memorable roles was in the hit real-time crime thriller 24 as NSA Director Roger Stanton, who served under President David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) in Season 2 of the Kiefer Sutherland series. He also played Secretary of State James Whitman in Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ comedy series Veep in 2016.
Yulin was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series in 1996 for playing Jerome Belasco in Kelsey Grammer’s classic sitcom Frasier.
In addition to his screen work, Yulin was also a stage actor. According to Deadline, Yulin made his Broadway debut in 1980 in a revival of Watch on the Rhine and starred in other productions including The Diary of Anne Frank and Hedda Gabler.
Per Deadline, Yulin is survived by his wife, Kristen Lowman, his son-in-law Ted Mineo and nephew, Martin Crane, and was preceded in death by his daughter, Claire Lucido, who was also an actor.
