LONDON, ENGLAND – JUNE 30: Novak Djokovic of Serbia (R) speaks with Andy Murray of Great Britain … More
Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray have agreed to part ways in their coaching relationship.
“Thank you, coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun & support over last six months on & off the court. I really enjoyed deepening our friendship together,” Djokovic, 37, posted on social media.
“Thanks to Novak for the unbelievable opportunity to work together and thanks to his team for all their hard work over the past six months,” Murray said.
The duo announced in February they would remain together at least through Wimbledon this summer, according to The Times of London.
Now they are done before the start of Roland Garros on May 25. Djokovic will be seeking a record 25th Grand Slam title at the event, but 18-time major champion Chrissie Evert told Forbes she would be “surprised” if the Serb wins the title.
Still, world No. 2 Alexander Zverev said Djokovic is still very capable.
“I still believe once he finds his game, he’s still one of the most dangerous players in the world,” Zverev told reporters in Rome. “There’s no question about his ability at all.
“It’s more whether he still wants to. It’s more whether he still wants to put in the work. That’s a question to him. I can’t answer that. His tennis ability is above everyone else’s.”
Murray and Djokovic appeared to be enjoying a successful partnership in Melbourne prior to the 37-year-old Serbian legend suffering the injury as he was bidding for a record 25th Grand Slam title.
“It’s all business for us now,” Djokovic said in his on-court interview following his first-round victory in Melbourne. “Obviously, thrilled to have him in my corner. I must say, it was a little bit of a strange experience to have him right courtside in my box. We played for over 20 years against each other on the highest level, and it’s great to have him on the same side of the net.”
