Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department spends 52 weeks on the Billboard 200, becoming her … More
Everyone knows Taylor Swift as one of the most commercially successful musicians of all time. She’s built her career not just on releasing hugely popular brand new albums that dominate the charts immediately, but on creating projects that have true staying power. While most pop stars today struggle to keep an album on the Billboard 200 for even a few months, Swift consistently shatters that norm. In fact, many of her full-lengths have racked up triple-digit stays on the tally. This week, her latest effort hits a major milestone, becoming yet another ongoing winner.
The Tortured Poets Department Hits One Year
Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department has now officially spent 52 weeks on the Billboard 200. The title becomes her latest full-length to remain on the all-genre ranking of the most-consumed albums in the U.S. for a full year.
Even a year after its release, The Tortured Poets Department is still performing very well. The set holds at No. 16 on the 200-spot roster this frame. In the latest tracking period, it moved about 30,500 equivalent units, according to Luminate. Of that sum, roughly 2,700 were pure album sales, while the majority came from continued streaming activity — a showing strong enough to also keep it inside the top 20 on the Top Streaming Albums chart.
The Tortured Poets Department Marks A New Milestone
The Tortured Poets Department is now Swift’s fifteenth project to spend at least one year on the Billboard 200. That’s a staggering number, especially considering that many globally recognized superstars don’t even have one album that has managed the feat. She is among a very small group of artists — if any others even exist — who can boast that kind of consistency and longevity.
1989 Remains Taylor Swift’s Longest-Charting Album
Swift’s 1989 remains the crown jewel of her discography, in terms of length of time spent on the tally. The original version of the album is just one frame shy of spending an incredible 10 years on the Billboard 200. It might not hit that decade mark anytime soon, as Swift’s fans have largely shifted their attention to 1989 (Taylor’s Version).
That re-recorded edition, which not only refreshed the original album but also added several “from the vault” tracks, has so far managed an impressive 77 weeks on the Billboard 200. This week, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) even jumps 10 spaces to land at No. 68.
Nearly All of Taylor Swift’s Albums Have Hit This Mark
Outside of a handful of special projects — such as her Christmas project The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection, her early Beautiful Eyes EP, and a few other limited releases — all of Swift’s albums have spent at least a full year on the Billboard 200. That’s an extremely rare feat, especially for someone who has released so many full-lengths throughout so many years.
