WWE SmackDown Highlights, Winners And Grades

Jey Uso Def. Gunther

Jey Uso’s entrance was preceded by DJ Valentino Khan, a team of dancers with “Yeet” flags and a WrestleMania-sized entrance where Jey walked all the way through Allegiant Stadium and Yeeted in the ring. The music looped at least three times and fans didn’t get tired for a single solitary second.

Alicia Taylor did a great job capturing a main event feel with her ring introductions, even for the opening match, which was a main-event level match in and of itself.

Jey landed a big uppercut early in the match that knocked Gunther on his butt. Fans popped loud for it. There were feint “let’s go Gunther” chants that were drowned out by ”let’s go Uso!”

A hot crowd was ready to explode following a Spear/Splash battery. It was a false finish as Gunther kicked out at the last second and tried to leave the match with his belt. Gunther found an opening and struck Jey with the title, followed by a splash for a nearfall.

Fans Yeeted through a rear-naked choke on Jey. who tried to grab the rope but was countered as Gunther got his hooks in.

Jey Uso hit three spears and shockingly slapped on a rear-naked choke for the submission win. Yes, Gunther tapped out. Let the Yeet Era begin.

The New Day Def. The War Raiders

The New Day and the War Raiders got an awesome video package before this match, and it featured Big E. Possible foreshadowing?

Fans were quiet early on in this match because of what it had to follow, but these teams wisely front-loaded the match with several innovative spots to get the fans into it. There were plenty of “ooh’s” and “ah’s” to go around.

Ivar hit a great moonsault for a nearfall, but New Day then isolated Ivar and won a record 11th tag team title as Woods pinned Erik with help from Kingston.

Jade Cargill Def. Naomi

Naomi walked out with new theme music that fit her new caution tape theme. Jade Cargill was featured in a “WrestleMania Weather Report.” Fans cheered for both women, but the louder cheers went to Naomi.

Early on, Naomi hit an impressive facebuster from the apron to the mat. It got the first big pop of the contest.

Naomi dominated early, but Jade hit a great comeback, pnuctuated by a superkick. Jade was cut off briefly, but then she caught a diving Naomi in midair with a Jackhammer. An awesome spot.

Jade caught a diving Naomi for a second time and hit a fallaway slam. The crowd was fully invested in both this match and Jade Cargill.

Jade won this historic match with a series of consecutive strong-woman spots, including a fireman’s carry into a electric chair, into a power bomb. Jade won with a modified Jaded in her best WWE match to date.

Jacob Fatu Def. LA Knight

Jacob Fatu stormed to the ring as dialed in as ever. LA Knight drove a white Lamborghini into Allegiant Stadium.

Knight tried an early BFT, but Fatu no-sold it as the crowd bubbled with enthusiasm.

Fatu and Knight went back-and-forth. It took several moonsaults for Fatu to finally put Knight away, clean in the middle. The pop for Fatu’s win was second only to Jey Uso. To this point, this might have been match of the night.

Haku, Fatu’s uncle, congratulated Jacob Fatu after his big win.

El Grande Americano Def. Rey Fenix

Fenix replaced Rey Mysterio, who was injured last night on SmackDown. As expected, fans went wild for El Grande Americano’s AI-inspired entrance.

There was a crowd shot of Dana White, who received a very mixed reaction in Las Vegas.

Amid WWE’s acquisition of AAA, Vikingo was shown in the crowd. Vikingo hit an enzuigiiri kick on El Grande Americano before the match started.

Fans were very much into this match, with AAA-flavored chants that I cannot repeat on this app.

El Grande Americano went for Fenix’s mask as fans booed. Fenix fought out of it. El Grande received even more heat when he pulled out the steel plate.

Fenix sold a right leg injury after kicking El Grande Americano in his steel-plated mask. El Grande Americano caught Fenix in an Ankle Lock. Americano used his steel mask on Fenix in midair, then once again from the top rope for the win.

Vikingo helped Rey Fenix to his feet after the loss.

Tiffany Stratton Def. Charlotte Flair

Shawn Michaels announced 61,467 fans for WrestleMania Saturday.

Tiffany Stratton had the best entrance of the night to this point as it mimicked a Barbie coming out of a package. there were two A.I. Tiffany Stratton’s, and the one in the middle was the real Tiffany. Stratton wore a bra that resembled the old Diva’s Championship.

In the second vehicular entrance of the night, Charlotte Flair stepped out of a Rolls Royce. Charlotte was booed out of the building like all great heels are.

Seth Rollins Def. CM Punk And Roman Reigns

Seth Rollins walked out first with a flamethrower. Seth was dressed in all black, then the lights turned off. When the lights came back on, Seth was in all white. He wore sunglasses with thorns on them like Jesus.

Roman Reigns was out next, and for his entrance, there were panels that lowered to the stage of legendary members of the Anoa’i family such as Yokozuna and the Wild Samoans.

WWE aired a fantastic video package for CM Punk. It was dedicated to one of his most famous promos early on in his career. “My name is CM Punk. I don’t smoke. I don’t drink. I don’t do drugs. My addiction is pro wrestling.” During the video package, “The Fire Burns” aired as fans sang along. Punk then walked out to a live rendition of “Cult of Personality” alongside Paul Heyman. Heyman kissed Punk on the head before Punk (and Allegiant Stadium) screamed “it’s clobbering time!”

CM Punk disposed of Reigns after Reigns took his attention off Punk to taunt Paul Heyman. Punk and Rollins brawled in the crowd early on, only for Reigns to come flying out of nowhere on both of them.

During a sequence of Triple Threat oneupsmanship, CM Punk one-upped both Reigns and Rollins with a neckbreaker/DDT combination. Punk then joined forces with Reigns for a Devastation Device on Rollins. Reigns immediately pounced with a Superman Punch for a nearfall.

Rollins hit a Pedigree on Reigns followed by a Curb Stomp for a great false finish, followed by “this is awesome” chants. Punk came back with a GTS on Reigns for another kickout. Allegiant was in shambles.

Rollins tried to convince Roman Reigns to work with him against CM Punk. Rollins took apart the announce table to prepare for a Shield Bomb. Now Reigns was conflicted. Reigns finally agreed to the spot, with fans going crazy, but then he outsmarted Rollins, punched ourt Seth and hit a power bomb on both his opponents.

Punk countered a Guillotine with an Anaconda Vice. After Rollins broke it up, Reigns countered a Sharpshooter on Punk with a Guillotine on Rollins.

Just when I thought this match couldn’t get any better, the following sequence happened:

  1. GTS on Rollins
  2. Spear on Punk
  3. Curb Stomp on Reigns

Paul Heyman grabbed a steel chair and gave it to Punk. As Punk went to use the symbolic chair on Reigns, Heyman low-blowed Punk. Reigns destroyed Punk with a steel chair while Paul was still in the ring.

Heyman instructed Reigns to hit Seth Rollins in the back. Nope. Paul Heyman low blow on Reigns. Seth Rollins wins.
