Elton John Scores A New Hit Song As His Latest Album Blasts In At No. 1

These days, Elton John is much more of an albums artist on the charts in the United Kingdom. His success usually comes from full-lengths — most often compilations — rather than new singles, which isn’t unusual for an act that’s been around as long as he has. His biggest hits power perennial bestsellers like Diamonds, but newly-released tunes from the legend rarely make much of a dent on their own, though sometimes, even he can change things up and score a successful song. With the arrival of his collaborative effort Who Believes in Angels? alongside Brandi Carlile, John is back with not just another charting album, but more than one hit single.

“Swing for the Fences” is a Quick Sales Hit

One of the cuts featured on Who Believes in Angels? becomes a charting win for both John and Carlile. “Swing for the Fences” debuts on a pair of U.K. tallies this frame, managing to land in nearly identical positions on each of them.

The collaboration opens at No. 83 on the Official Singles Downloads chart, the list that ranks the bestselling tracks only on platforms like iTunes in the country. Just two spots below that spot, the same cut appears at No. 85 on the Official Singles Sales roster, which includes not only digital purchases, but physical formats as well.

Elton John Reaches a Downloads Milestone

With “Swing for the Fences,” John hits a noteworthy milestone on the Official Singles Downloads chart. The tune gives the superstar his twenty-fifth career placement on that list. Over on the more comprehensive Official Singles Sales list, “Swing for the Fences” becomes the piano player’s nineteenth appearance.

“Who Believes in Angels?” Track Returns to Multiple Charts

As “Swing for the Fences” debuts, another tune from the Who Believes in Angels? album reappears. The title track returns to both the Official Singles Downloads and Official Singles Sales charts this week. The composition comes back at No. 68 on the downloads-only roster and at No. 70 on the sales tally. Both of those reentries follow strong initial showings that saw the title cut nearly crack the top 20 on both rankings.

Who Believes in Angels? Hits No. 1 Everywhere

Who Believes in Angels? launches at No. 1 on five separate U.K. charts this week, easily becoming one of the biggest new releases of 2025 in that country. The project opens atop the Official Albums chart, giving John his tenth leader on that all-genre tally. It marks Carlile’s first time ruling the prestigious ranking.
