Strategy’s growing Bitcoin treasury

Strategy’s latest Bitcoin purchase is a major investment at current market prices. The company paid $1.92 billion for 22,048 BTC, with the purchase completed on March 30, 2025.

Data shows that Strategy has now invested a total of approximately $35.63 billion to build its Bitcoin value over the years.

The average purchase price across all of the company’s Bitcoin acquisitions now stands at $67,458 per coin. This price advantage has allowed MicroStrategy to realize considerable gains on paper as Bitcoin’s value has increased.

According to Saylor’s announcement, the company has achieved a Bitcoin yield of 11.0% year-to-date for 2025. This metric shows the performance of the company’s Bitcoin holdings since the beginning of the year.

The current market value of MicroStrategy’s entire Bitcoin holdings exceeds $43.42 billion based on recent prices. This creates an unrealized gain of approximately $7.77 billion or a 21.81% return on investment across all purchases.

MicroStrategy began its Bitcoin acquisition strategy in August 2020, viewing the cryptocurrency as a superior treasury reserve asset compared to traditional cash holdings. Since then, the company has consistently added to its position through various market conditions.

Recent BTC purchase compared to previous one, and how Bitcoin value changes

Strategy’s latest 22,048 BTC purchase follows several major Bitcoin value purchases made by the company in early 2025.

On March 24, 2025, the company purchased 6,911 BTC for $584.1 million at an average Bitcoin value of $84,529. Earlier in the month, on March 17, Strategy added a smaller batch of 1,130 BTC at $82,981 per coin, totaling $10.7 million.

February saw even larger acquisitions, with 20,356 BTC bought on February 24 for nearly $2 billion at a price of $97,514 per coin. This followed another purchase on February 10 of 7,633 BTC for $742.4 million.

January was equally active for the company’s Bitcoin strategy. Strategy bought 10,107 BTC on January 27 at a price of $105,596 per coin, while January 21 saw the company add 11,000 BTC to its holdings at $101,191 each.

Strategy’s latest acquisition of 22,048 BTC comes at a time when Bitcoin is trading at $82,000, showing the firm’s confidence in the asset despite dropping prices.

The timing of this purchase follows a pattern of Strategy buying Bitcoin regardless of market conditions. While many institutional investors wait for price dips, Strategy has consistently bought Bitcoin at various price points throughout 2025.
