Trump Media files trademark for a TRUMP metaverse and NFT marketplace

DTTM Operations, the company managing President Donald Trump’s intellectual property rights, has submitted a trademark application to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) today. The filing has already been accepted and is awaiting an examiner.

According to the document, the Trump metaverse will host an array of NFT-based digital collectibles, like images, sound files, videos, and text files featuring Trump.

The USPTO filing explicitly says that the platform plans to provide “an online virtual environment for exchange of digital collectibles featuring images, sound, videos, and texts of Donald J. Trump.”

The application also covers software development for virtual reality environments, blockchain-powered transactions, and the creation of digital real estate, which makes sense since Trump’s area of expertise is real estate.

There’s even mention of graphic design services for virtual apartments and office buildings in the filing.

Trump doubles down on NFTs

The filing promised user authentication and blockchain security for users, adding that the platform would incorporate NFT authentication technology to determine the uniqueness and ownership of digital assets.

The document also includes plans for a cloud-based system allowing users to mint, buy, and sell NFTs, as well as software that would enable the trading of crypto assets within a virtual economy.

The filing said, “Hosting software platforms for virtual reality-based virtual worlds in which users can exchange digital goods and crypto currencies using only those images, texts, videos and sound files authorized by the 45th and 47th President of the United States of America and authenticated by non-fungible tokens (NFTs).”

The list of downloadable virtual assets mentioned in the filing includes wearable digital items like virtual hats, shoes, eyewear, and handbags, as well as avatars, sports equipment, and even toys. There’s also a clear focus on VR hardware, with the document citing downloadable game software for virtual environments and even hygienic pads and covers for VR headsets.

Over the past two years, Trump has launched multiple NFT collections, some of which had real-world perks like access to Trump-branded sneakers, VIP cocktails, and even a dinner at Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida.

Trump has also embraced Bitcoin, pledged to make it the reserve currency of the US, and has managed to turn himself a full-blown pro-crypto alternative to current government policies.

If the Trump metaverse and NFT marketplace goes live, it could have major implications for struggling metaverse tokens like Sandbox (SAND) and Decentraland (MANA), which both saw massive gains during the 2021 hype cycle but have since slumped, thanks to low user engagement and declining interest.
