Phishing Scams Target Users via Telegram

The X account of Dawn Internet, a decentralized and autonomous wireless network project, was hacked on January 15. According to cybersecurity platform ScamSniffer, the attackers used the compromised account to share phishing content aimed at tricking followers into providing personal information.

At first, the attackers posted phishing links directly on the account, making their scam easy to spot. But to evade detection, they changed tactics, redirecting users to a Telegram channel.

This Telegram channel hosted bots, including one called SafeguardsAuthenticationRobot, which deceived users into entering their Telegram usernames and passwords.

Cybercriminals increasingly use social media to carry out complex phishing schemes. By leveraging platforms like Telegram, they make their scams appear more trustworthy and increase the chances of success.

Telegram itself has been linked to the distribution of phishing tools and kits, showing how it can be misused for such malicious activities.
