Crypto scammers hack Wiz Khalifa’s account to promote fake WIZ meme coin

Rapper Wiz Khalifa’s X account was reportedly hacked by scammers launching a pump.fun-based meme coin WIZ. ZachXBT suspects it is the same hacker that hijacked Truth Terminal founder’s X account.

In a Telegram channel on Nov. 4, blockchain investigator ZachXBT shared a screenshot of a now-deleted post from American rapper Wiz Khalifa’s X account. The account currently has around 35.7 million followers.

ZachXBT warned traders against buying the pump.fun meme coin WIZ as he believes the rapper’s account was hacked by an unnamed scammer looking to sell sham meme coins.

“Do not buy the Wiz Khalifa pump fun [token] it’s the same hacker who compromised Andy Ayrey (Truth Terminal creator) the other day,” said ZachXBT in his public Telegram group.

In the deleted X post, the hacker wrote on Wiz Khalifa’s account that he has been “working with my team to drop $WIZ for all the crypto fam.” The account then proceeded to share a link to a pump.fun Solana(SOL)-based meme coin for followers to buy.

Based on data from DEX Screener, the WIZ meme coin price went up to almost 2,000% and its market cap reached a peak of more than $2.5 million in the first 15 minutes after the launch. However, within the next hour, the market capitalization of the memecoin fell below $28,000 as early holders began to unload huge sums of the token.

At the time of writing, WIZ fell by more than 90% in the past 24 hours. The pump.fun token is currently trading at a market cap of $7,900, according to data from DEX Screener.

After the meme coin-related posts were deleted, there have been no further posts on Wiz Khalifa’s account that indicate whether the rapper or his team has regained control over the account.

Although the exact identity of the hacker is still unknown, independent blockchain sleuth ZachXBT believes it is the same hacker that was responsible for taking over Truth Terminal developer Andy Ayrey’s account.

On Oct. 29, crypto scammers hijacked the X account of Truth Terminal creator Andy Ayrey to promote a dubious meme coin. They managed to gain over $600,000 through using the account to promote a token named Infinite Backrooms or IB.

The token was named after the AI chatroom experiment that ultimately led to the creation of the AI-powered X account Truth Terminal. The scammers promised an airdrop of the upcoming token to anyone who shared and promoted his Telegram group.

On Nov. 1, Ayrey made a post addressing the X account hijack. He said he hoped the scammers airdropped some IB tokens into his crypto wallet, but apparently he only received “copycats.” Furthermore, he asked crypto wallet investigators if they could provide a list of known scammer wallets to block.

“Any good wallet investigators out there who would be able to potentially provide a list of all the scammer’s known wallets to blacklist them from benefitting from any such actions we may consider taking?” Ayrey wrote.
