Solana’s popular multi-chain Web3 wallet, Phantom, has unexpectedly crashed, causing disruptions for users due to a major backend incident.
According to a statement from SolanaFloor, the wallet experienced a significant outage, leading to incorrect account balances and service interruptions during the ongoing GRASS token airdrop.
In a status update, Phantom confirmed that it was dealing with an “outage event” that had been ongoing for over an hour. The incident primarily affected users’ ability to view accurate balances, but both the browser extension and mobile app remain functional. Phantom reassured users that their funds were safe and provided instructions for continuing transactions if necessary.
“We are currently experiencing an outage and some services may be temporarily disrupted. If you need to take urgent action, please ignore the simulation errors and try using a dapp. We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve the issue,” the developers wrote.
The timing of the outage coincided with the highly anticipated GRASS token airdrop, which distributed 10% of the total token supply. The incident led many users to report issues accessing their correct account balances, raising concerns about airdrop claims.
As of the last update, Phantom’s status page reported a “major issue” and stated that the team was actively working to resolve the ongoing situation. While the company reiterated that funds were safe, users expressed their disappointment on social media due to the incident occurring during a critical airdrop window.
