Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has launched Telegram Phone Verification Service as a service to businesses via Telegram Gateway. The service is available for what he calls an ‘unprecedented low price.’
CEO Durov, announced that Telegram Gateway is the cheapest option on the market that offers an alternative to SMS-based verification solutions. The new feature employs Telegram’s existing infrastructure and provides an alternative to traditional SMS verification. The new feature is priced at $0.01 per verification code.
The new Phone Verification Service can be used by businesses or developers after they integrate it into their applications, facilitating an easy onboarding for users who already have a Telegram account.
Telegram says that the new service is much faster than SMS-based options, with users receiving verification codes almost instantly and it also offers improved reliability, high costs and geographical restrictions.
Durov announced the launch by saying that “Telegram offers the most affordable option for businesses seeking phone number verification.”
Durov also added that he doesn’t necessarily see the service becoming a significant revenue source, but it could still hold strategic value for Telegram as it continues to pivot beyond messaging. The move is seen as the latest effort by Telegram to bolster its heavily complex as well as inclusive ecosystem.
