Ethereum’s EIP-7781 Aims to Cut Block Time by 33% and Boost Throughput by 50%

EIP-7781, introduced by Ben Adams, co-founder of Illyriad Games, was designed to decrease the **block time** from 12 seconds to just 8 seconds. This advancement could potentially lead to a **50% increase** in the overall **throughput** of the Ethereum blockchain. By focusing on increasing **latency** based on summarization and optimizing the capacity of **blobs**—temporary data structures used to alleviate Layer 2 network costs—the proposal seeks to address existing bottlenecks within the network efficiently. Anonymous developer Cygaar noted that this initiative represents a critical movement towards fortifying the base layer of Ethereum, complementing ongoing efforts in the Layer 2 scaling landscape. Furthermore, Justin Drake from the Ethereum Foundation indicated his support for the initiative, aligning it with strategic goals set forth by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.
