Key Points:
- Developers discussed improvements to Ethereum’s consensus layer and node operator support.
- Pectra Devnet 2 debugging is nearly done, with Devnet 3 preparations ongoing.
- Pectra will improve scalability, security, and user experience with features like Verkle trees and better staking.
Ethereum developers are standing at the frontline of very serious change in the upcoming Pectra upgrade-the point of major focus during the recent Ethereum Core Developer Executive, ACDE, conference call.

Developers Focus on Pectra Upgrade and Consensus Improvements
Christine Kim, Vice President of Research at Galaxy, summarized the discussions with several updates and key decisions.
The call was moderated by Alex Stokes, an Ethereum Foundation Researcher, and focused on changes with the Consensus Layer specifications and updates surrounding the Engine API.
One of the major pains was in improving the computation of proof for resource-constrained node operators, in particular homestakers, within the PeerDAS framework. And the developers try to smooth those pains out in order to make the network more efficient.
Pectra Devnet 2 Debugging Nears Completion
Debugging on Pectra Devnet 2 is also almost complete. According to Prysm developer Terence Tsao, his team had finally solved a non-finality bug, and the client was now running incident-free. With this bug now resolved, EF Developer Operations Engineer Parithosh Jayanthi announced that Pectra Devnet 2 could now be deprecated.
As part of the Pectra Devnet 3 countdown, Jayanthi reminded users that not every client team needs to have its implementation ready for the next devnet launch. The development will continue by onboarding a few implementations first and adding more as they are ready, but still, some pending issues related to EIP 7702 have yet to be cleared out for some execution layer clients.
Future Features of Pectra for Scalability and Security of Ethereum
The development team reviewed, in previous meetings, the latest developments in PeerDAS deployment, the bug fixing still in progress in Pectra Devnet 2, and preparation for Devnet 3. While participation in the Pectra Devnet 2 has reached as high as 85% on the network, a couple of bugs remain in the Execution Layer, primarily in EthereumJS and Erigon clients.
Meanwhile, the Pectra upgrade promises major enhancements to the Ethereum network in aspects such as account abstraction, validator operations, and performance. Other features coming with the upgrade include Verkle trees and flexible staking withdrawals, which all promise a triple boost in scalability, security, and user experience.
