Binance CEO X Post Calls Gambaryan’s Treatment ‘Inhuman’

Nigeria is again in the spotlight over Binance, and this time, it’s for inhumane treatment. A new video going viral on the internet has shown the harsh treatment of Binance’s Tigran Gambaryan. The exchange’s chief of crime compliance has been imprisoned in Nigeria for months now.

Nigeria Faces Backlash on Binance Officer’s Inhumane Treatment

Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s head of crime compliance, showed up in court after his trial date was moved up to September 2. Shortly after his court appearance, an unsettling video surfaced, causing the exchange’s CEO, Richard Teng, to call for Gambaryan’s immediate release.

Richard Teng said, “This inhumane treatment of Tigran must end. He must be allowed to go home for medical treatment and to be with his family.”

The Binance executive has been held by Nigerian authorities for six months, with his physical and mental condition worsening drastically. Gambaryan has suffered a herniated disc in his back, as well as bouts of pneumonia, malaria, and tonsillitis.

Gambaryan’s lawyers further say that his imprisonment circumstances at Kuje jail have prevented them from meeting with him to prepare for trial. Gambaryan was taken into custody in connection with alleged financial crimes totaling $34 million regarding Binance’s operations in Nigeria.

Gambaryan filed a complaint in March against Nigeria’s National Security Adviser and the EFCC for violating his basic human rights. On Monday, he made another plea to the judge, claiming that he is not receiving enough medical care in prison and is denied access to his legal counsel and embassy officials.
