AI glasses are expected to be the next big hit shortly with almost everyone wishing to own a pair of the set on the back of their abilities, reports say.
Combining capabilities ranging from AI voice assistant with AR holographic visuals and other features and functionalities of Bluetooth earbuds, having a pair of these glasses, according to Compute World, will make one feel special, like they know everything and are constantly aided by AI.
AI glasses to bring Sci-Fi to reality
In one of his movies, Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning 1, Tom Cruise, who plays the character of Ethan Hunt, wears augmented AI-powered glasses to aid his fight against the bad guys.
If global technology giants’ plans materialize, similar devices may be part of our daily lives, as there is an emerging race of companies rushing to capture the AI-powered glasses market.
According to reports, Snap Incorporated, an American company that manufactures futuristic eyewear, and Meta, one of the biggest investors in the metaverse, are both preparing to launch AI-powered glasses soon.
Although both companies have kept any insights into the products under lock and key, it is suspected that these products may be a few weeks away and expected to be a hit.
Meta is expected to unveil their Orion glasses at the Connect Conference, scheduled for September 25 and 26.
In a not-so-subtle hint, the Meta Connect Conference website has a picture of their founder Mark Zuckerberg in what appear to be Rayban shades, with the caption “Join Mark Zuckerberg as he shares Meta’s vision for AI and the metaverse, including Meta’s newest product announcements.”
This has propelled speculation that Zuckerberg’s keynote address sees the company launching the Orion glasses, which are predicted to be immersive.
Meta is not walking into this space blindly; their Meta-Rayban glasses have been a hit among tech enthusiasts.
A Forbes report chronicling the Meta-Rayban glasses suggests that the glasses significantly reduce smartphone use.
Asia market has already set the tone for AI glasses
Snap Incorporated may beat Meta to release their AI-powered spectacle. Industry punters predict that the company may launch its fifth-generation spectacle range at the Snap Partner Summit on September 17.
“Features like a wider field of view and improved battery life could grace a production run of fewer than 10,000 units for developers. (The current 4th-generation Spectacles are also for developers only; Snap never sold them to the public).” an article on the Computer World website reads.
However, it appears that in Asia, there are already some products on the market that serve the function Meta and Snap are aiming for.
These include the Xiaomi-affiliated Superhexa, whose Jiehuan brand gives access to Large Language Models.
In Hong Kong, Solos have their AirGo smart glasses, which give voice access to ChatGPT.
The technology race is fast bringing to life the futuristic concepts that used to feature in Sci-Fi movies, with AI-powered glasses being the latest iteration.
