WazirX founder clarifies asset status, warns of increasing fake accounts

The founder of Indian crypto exchange WazirX, Nischal Shetty, has warned the crypto community of a rising fake account trend. Nischal also spoke about the status of the exchange’s remaining assets.

WazirX has been planning for a resolution following a hack last month that looted over $230 million worth of crypto. However, amidst all the resolution plans, Nischal has warned in an X post the community to be careful of a new trend.

Nischal has identified the rise of fake accounts impersonating WazirX accounts. He stated that “if someone is supporting the prompt resolution then these fake accounts are targeting and stating they are WazirX accounts which is not true at all.”

WazirX founder mentioned that these accounts are trying to suppress smart voices who understand that this structuring is the right next step, which can avoid several years of delays.

WazirX founder says few have misguided users on remaining assets

Nischal mentioned in one of his recent tweets that some people have misguided and scared everyone that the remaining assets of the exchange are gone too. He stated that these people have no basis to say it except to get more attention.

The exchange’s founder highlighted that he had announced earlier that the unaffected tokens were being moved to new wallets. WazirX is currently exploring new custody providers and will be able to share the PoR after it has been completed.

Nischal’s tweet comes after he blocked Crypto India co-founder Aditya Singh for asking for a transparency report. Aditya put out a tweet sharing this action, stating that Nischal blocked him for asking actual relevant questions on his tweets.

Indian crypto community slams Nischal for blocking people

The action by Nischal has definitely triggered community fury, as the Indian crypto community has been bashing the founder below his tweets. Prominent Indian crypto influencer Pushpendra Singh tweeted that Nischal is blocking everyone who is questioning him about the hack.

Pushpendra mentioned that it is unacceptable for an exchange to block users for asking legitimate questions. Another crypto user called Rohitash Yadav even called Nischal and his team thieves and accused them of being the ones who had stolen the user’s funds.

The backlash comes from the users who have put their whole savings on the exchange and are now unable to withdraw them.
