Upbit Adds USDT Trading Pairs For Meme Coins BRETT and PEPE

South Korea’s largest crypto exchange, Upbit, has announced the addition of USDT trading pairs for two popular meme coins: Brett (BRETT) and Pepe (PEPE).

This development, coupled with Binance Futures’ launch of a BRETTUSDT Perpetual Contract, signals wider recognition for these meme coins.

Pepe and BRETT get recognition by Upbit

BRETT, a meme coin issued on the Base Chain in February 2024, draws its inspiration from a character in Matt Fury’s “Boy’s Club” cartoon. Despite lacking specific token utility, BRETT aims to become a cultural icon within the crypto industry and a mascot for the Base Chain.

PEPE, launched on the Ethereum network in April 2023, leverages the popularity of the Pepe the Frog meme. It positions itself as a challenger to dog-themed meme coins.

Upbit’s decision to list these tokens reflects the growing market demand for meme-inspired cryptocurrencies. The exchange has implemented specific trading restrictions to manage potential volatility. These include temporary limits on buy orders and minimum sell prices immediately after trading support begins.

Simultaneously, Binance Futures’ introduction of a BRETTUSDT Perpetual Contract with up to 50x leverage adds a new dimension to BRETT’s market presence. This move could potentially increase trading volume and liquidity for the meme coin.
