The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has released its agenda for the 2024 presidential election and has not included cryptocurrency. This decision emphasizes the position of US Vice President Kamala Harris, which may not be favorable among crypto enthusiasts. This revelation came at the same time that the DNC published a clear and comprehensive plan of action for the country, which included healthcare, education, and other issues.
Kamala Harris Shifts Focus from Blockchain
The DNC’s 91-page document does not mention blockchain or cryptocurrencies. However, it focuses on the agriculture, health, and education sectors. This exclusion has elicited diverse responses in the country, indicating that the focus has been shifted from earlier concerns about novel technologies.
In addition, a user named MetaLawMan on X provides a comparison of the Republican and Democratic platforms. The Republicans support ceasing what they regard as the Democrats’ assault on crypto technologies. They also oppose the development of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) in the U.S., as they support a less intervened crypto market.
RNC’s Tech Focus Gains Voter Appeal
However, unlike the DNC, the Republican National Committee (RNC) has been innovative. In an interview, Fox Business reporter Eleanor Terrett described some of the policies on the RNC platform, which include accepting cryptocurrencies, going to space, and artificial intelligence. This position might be more attractive to voters who are concerned with technological development.
Such differences in opinion on technology might have played a role in the change in public opinion. According to the latest data from Polymarket, Donald Trump is slightly favored over Kamala Harris in the next election; Trump’s odds have improved since Harris spoke about cryptocurrencies. The same is evident in a Rasmussen Reports poll that was conducted between 8 and 14 August, where Trump was ahead of Harris with 4%.
Harris Criticized for Anti-Crypto Stance
This approach may have to be tweaked in a bid to improve Harris’s standing, especially among the new-generation voters. It has not been helpful that she recently gave speeches and held town hall meetings that did not endear her to the crypto community. Broadening the voter appeal could mean regaining lost support in the run-up to the election.
Other policy actions by the Vice President, such as the patent takeover plan, have also been criticized by key persons, such as Elon Musk. This could further complicate her campaign because people would start arguing whether she deserves the position or not. This could be a time when Harris’s team has to think more diversely about technology and innovation to draw the attention of more voters.
