Arrowhead Game Studios has confirmed that hackers played a part in the completion of a Major Order in Helldivers 2. The order, which necessitated the collection of an astonishing 65,000,000 Samples by the community, was finished in just 12 hours, a pace that raised eyebrows among players immediately. These doubts were proven correct and led to consequences within the game.
The governing body within the game’s narrative, Super Earth High Command, released a statement saying that many of the samples collected were fake. As punishment, players who submitted these false samples have had their in-game pet fish killed off, a darkly humorous twist to what has unfolded.
On a more serious note, the statement also made it clear that laboratories across Super Earth are now having to sieve through such fake samples. This has led to much time being taken for the necessary science to occur to help try to stop the spread of the Gloom to various worlds around it that are now initiating resettlement due to the setback.
Helldivers 2 players keep medals amid cheating controversy
This cheating did not matter, and for participating in the Major Order, the participants were awarded fifty-five medals. The game presents these Medals to the players who participated in the community-wide events despite the cheats that were detected. This move received mixed feelings though most gamers must have been relieved since Freedom’s Flame Warband has just been released. The recent update also included options like fire resistance among other things, weapons that can be substituted for other types of weapons including a breaker incendiary shotgun.
The hack revelation has ignited a larger conversation within the Helldivers 2 community. Players are questioning whether or not future Major Orders and other events driven by the community can be trusted. There is also some wondering why these hackers did not interfere during past challenges like one requiring players to kill 1.5 billion enemies together an effort that led to unpopular Anti-Tank Mines being force unlocked by all when completed and left many feeling sour.
