Craig Wright has appealed to the UK courts. This legal action, as confirmed by Bird & Bird, the firm representing COPA, which is the Cryptocurrency Open Patent Alliance, can be a new phase in the legal battles. The UK Court of Appeal admitted to having received the request on August 14.
The decision on whether to accept an appeal entirely depends on a clear and compelling oversight or procedural mistake in the previous judgment. Craig Wright’s action comes after many questions arose early on as to whether he filed in time. Bird & Bird has averred that there is no basis for the appeal and will take appropriate action.
Further, there is controversy over the nature of Wright’s appeal’s dates. Some delays in filing these documents may be attributed to compliance with the mandatory 21-day filing after judgment, while others might be real delays. According to information published by Protos, no appeal had been filed by the initial deadline of August 5.
Wright Counters AI Use Claims in Appeal
Wright’s appeal has led to debates on X, where an account believed to belong to the latter has been active. This account has considered the administrative responses to critics and the defence that the individual can make against critique. It mainly dismissed claims that Wright’s appeal was based on the use of artificial intelligence content.
Also, an X user, assuming to be a patent attorney, opined on the role of AI in preparing the appeal, which Wright’s account dismissed. Wright remains unshaken in his legal arguments while complaining that COPA is groundless. His statement underlines that his work is not linked to the application of AI.
Through its counsel, COPA has not wavered from its position on the appeal. The court is waiting to decide whether to pursue Wright’s demand further. The organisation is legally set to deal with the appeal as it launches its counteraction.
