Intel Reveals Chips, Raising Competition for Nvidia and AMD

Intel announced the chips for AI models which were seen as a competition for big AI chip-making companies Nvidia and AMD. The company talks about NPUs that run AI programs faster. Their server and PC processors include these specialized AI parts.

As told by the company on December 14, the updated Xeon server uses less electricity and also increases performance and memory. The ultra-core chips of Intel will let laptops and desktops process AI functions directly.

Although Gaudi will launch next year, it will compete with rivals Nvidia and AMD. These companies make chips that power big AI models. H100, the chip from Nvidia’s industry known as the AI accelerator is going to receive major competition with the release of Gaudi in 2024.

Why is Intel seen as a competition for Nvidia and AMD?

Nvidia and AMD are prominent names when talking about the companies that develop AI processor chips. Big AI models like ChatGPT and OpenAI run on Nvidia GPUs in the cloud. This is one of the causes for its stock value rising by nearly 230% year to date, while Intel’s share also rises by 68%.

With the announcement of chips, Intel tends to attract AI companies, and its shares were up 1% on Thursday. The company has not provided more specifications regarding Gaudi 3, but it will compete with Nvidia’s H100 which is the preferred choice of companies that build huge farms of the chips to power AI applications.

Intel said that its chip will outperform the H100. It is also seen as a competitor for AMD’s forthcoming M1300X which starts shipping to customers in 2024.

AMD is already a competition to Nvidia. Microsoft and Meta say that they will buy AMD’s new chip M1300X. This indicates that the companies need alternatives to the existing processor.

These processors have been essential for the development of AI. The Intel chips for the AI model serve the growing requirements of running faster AI programs. This will therefore be seen as the competition for Nvidia and AMD.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger at a launch event in New York said “We’ve been seeing the excitement with generative AI, the star of the show for 2023”. Here he unveiled the AI chip processor Gaudi 3 and other chips focused on AI applications.

About Updated Xeon chips and Intel Core Ultra

Both are the latest announcements from Intel that support PCs and laptops. They have NPU, the specialized AI part that makes the AI function faster by running the programs faster.

This means that Intel Core will not provide the power to run Chatbots like ChatGPT, which is a large language model, without an internet connection but can handle smaller tasks. These chips also include more powerful gaming capabilities.
