Orbit Bridge Faces $81.4 Million Security Breach and Reimbursement Scam

An illegal breach at 08:52:47 PM +UTC on December 31, 2023, stole $81.4 million in cryptocurrency from decentralized cross-chain technology Orbit Bridge. This significant security breach shocked the cryptocurrency community, leading Orbit Bridge to examine the damage. The loss is $81.4 million due to “unidentified access” to Orbit Bridge. Since it used interchain communication to move assets, the site was vulnerable to currency theft.

Orbit Bridge analysed the security compromise to find its cause. Orbit Bridge and cybersecurity firm Theori found flaws and improved platform security. Cybersecurity professionals must identify and minimize such weaknesses, as the collaboration shows.

The Orbit Chain official X account has now issued the trail of this hack. The hacker used Tornado Cash to supply the initial ETH. The wallet addresses used by the hacker have also been revealed. The site is engaging with foreign law enforcement due to the severity of the situation. To hold crypto sector miscreants accountable, this collaborative initiative emphasizes legal penalties.
