SEC Postpones Decision on Grayscale’s Ethereum Spot ETF Listing

The new deadline for a decision is Jan. 25.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has announced an extension for its decision on NYSE Arca’s proposed rule change to list shares of the Grayscale Ethereum Trust as an exchange-traded product.

NYSE published the proposal for public comment on Oct. 27, after which the SEC was mandated to approve, disapprove, or initiate proceedings to determine the viability of the proposal within a set timeframe.

Originally, a 45-day window was set, which would have concluded on Dec. 11. The SEC has now opted to extend this period to Jan 25.

NYSE Arca’s proposal to list Grayscale Ethereum Trust shares represents a potential milestone in the acceptance and integration of crypto into traditional financial rails. An Ethereum ETF would facilitate institutional investors’ access to the second-largest crypto by market cap .

The extension, the SEC explains, is to allow ample time for a thorough consideration of the proposed rule change and the issues it raises.

“The Commission finds it appropriate to designate a longer period within which to take action on the proposed rule change so that it has sufficient time to consider the proposed rule change and the issues raised therein,” the SEC filing said.

With the new deadline set, the SEC will have to make a decision to either approve or disapprove the proposed rule change, or begin proceedings to determine whether to disapprove it.
