U2 Keeps Extending Their Concert Residency

Just when it seems like U2 is about to finish their current concert residency, they add more shows. Now, the band has done it again, extending their stay in Las Vegas due to high demand.

The band has announced that their U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere is set to run even longer than was expected. U2 just added four more shows to the streak, on Friday, February 23, Saturday, February 24, Friday, March 1, and Saturday, March 2.

According to a press release that announced the additional concerts, these will be the last additions to the U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere residency. Of course, such claims can be countered later, but fans shouldn’t expect more chances to catch the concerts.

With these four new shows added, U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere will now finish after 40 concerts. When it was first announced, the run was only expected to include 25 shows, but that proved to be far too few. The band extended the venture once, and now has done so a second time, as they apparently have no issue filling the 20,000-seat venue.

For months, an extension was expected, as no follow-up act had been announced to take over for U2 in Las Vegas. Just a few days ago, jam band Phish was announced as the second stars to headline the venue. Their four-date residency begins in April, so U2 doesn’t have much room to extend, if they want to.

U2 will forever be known as the band that introduced the high-tech Sphere to the world. Videos and photos from their first performances at the venue shocked the internet, as no one had seen anything like the massive screens that back the band before. The group also celebrated the honor of being the first by releasing a new single titled “Atomic City” months ago, and it’s still charting now.
