FC Barcelona Could Have Unexpected Cash Injection, Make New Signings

FC Barcelona could receive an unexpected cash injection in January according to SPORT, which also reports that the club isn’t ruling out making new signings other than Vitor Roque in January.

The Catalans currently still awaiting a $43.5 million payment from the Libero group related to the resale of ownership stakes in Barca Studios.

Before the weekend, SPORT reported that Barca don’t expect to make any player sales meaning there would be no extra money coming in.

A surprise $2.2 million (€2 million) could be on its way to boost the coffers , however, with Real Betis prepared to sign Juan Miranda.

SPORT writes on Sunday how the Andalusians tried to offload Miranda in the summer but weren’t able to pull off the sale before the transfer window which opens again at the turn of 2024.

Several proposals are already lined up this time round, however, and Barca would be set to receive half of the money from the expected $4.35 million (€4 million) sale.

While this money would be used to adjust the salary cap, the same publication has reported that Barca are considering other winter arrivals beyond Vitor Roque.

Barca agreed to pay the Brazilian teenager’s current employers Athletico Paranaense $32.63 million (€30 million) up front and a further $33.7 million (€31 million) in variables depending on how he fares as the long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski.

And though things are tight at the debt-ridden club financially speaking, Barca are reportedly not ruling out making other signings for the business end of the 2023/2024 season.

What former teammates Deco and Xavi both agree on is that Barca need a midfielder considering the season-ending injury Gavi suffered on international duty for Spain.

The 19-year-old suffered an ACL tear against Georgia a fortnight ago, and will be out for six to eight months while ruled out of the European Championships in Germany for La Roja next summer.

While Xavi would like a more attacking midfielder, however, Deco doesn’t believe that a player with such a profile would have space in the starting line up given competition from Pedri, Ilkay Gundogan and Fermin Lopez.

Deco believes that someone more physical is needed, amid struggles for from suffered by Oriol Romeu at pivot.
