Maverick Carter, LeBron James’s Manager, Admitted To Betting On NBA

According to federal law enforcement documents, Maverick Carter, LeBron James’s longtime manager and business partner, illegally bet on NBA games. Using an unauthorized bookie named Wayne Nix, Carter told authorities in 2021 that he could not remember ever betting on games related to James’ Los Angeles Lakers.

Over a period spanning one year, Carter placed 20 bets with wager amounts spanning from $5,000 to $10,000 on various football and basketball games.

As sports gambling becomes more mainstream and legalized across plenty of states, it’s important to note that players and executives from professional teams can not wager on events within their own sport. However, this rule does not apply to other associates, in Carter’s case as the businessman of arguably the greatest player in NBA history.

Nix also was also close with NBA legend Scottie Pippen, who was also mentioned in the documents from authorities.

Nix later plead guilty to his charges to running an illegal sports betting ring, which led to various figures in the sports world being interviewed by law enforcement in the case.

Carter has helped James throughout the years launching various platforms, including the highly successful Uninterruped umbrella.
