Difference Between Arbitrum and zkSync

Arbitrum and zkSync are popular L-2 solutions for Ethereum but both have different approaches to achieve scalability. zkSync utilizes zk (zero knowledge) roll-ups to confirm the validity and integrity of the off-chain computation. This follows that the set of instructions executed off-chain follows Ethereum rules. By composing the information into a compact proof, zkRollups minimize the data that needs to be stored and processed on the Ethereum network. However, generating and verifying these proofs is statically hard.

On the other hand, in Optimistic roll ups which is used by Arbitrum, an optimistic approach is implemented. In this, all the transactions are made off-chain similar to zkRollups but instead of submitting the proofs, optimistic rollups assume that the off-chain computations are valid unless it is proven otherwise. This means the transactions are computed optimistically and verified only if the dispute is raised by a participant. If the dispute happens the necessary data is submitted to the Ethereum mainnet for validation.

Zk roll-ups provide a cryptographic guarantee of correctness through zero-knowledge proofs whereas the optimistic roll-ups prioritize efficiency by assuming validity unless proven otherwise. It has a chance of slipping the fraudulent transactions but the computation is hugely decreased.

How to Use Arbitrum Bridge

Step 2: Connect the Ethereum wallet. Many wallets are supporting Ethereum. Most of the users opt for MetaMask.

Step 4: Enter the amount for transfer.

Step 5: Fill in the transaction details and the gas fees.

Step 6: Confirm and start the transaction. Once completed, the assets will appear in the Layer-2 Arbitrum wallet.

Step 7: When a user wants to reverse the assets in the Ethereum mainnet follow the same process in return.

The transfer of assets from Ethereum to Arbitrum is relatively faster as compared to the transfer of assets from Arbitrum to Ethereum. It is due to security mechanisms. Arbitrum employs different cryptographic techniques such as elliptic curve cryptography (ECC). 

This technique secures the funds of users and maintains the privacy of sensitive data. ECC confirms that the cryptographic signatures and private keys resist tampering and unauthorized access.
