Kevin Harvick May Return In A Limited Xfinity Or Truck Series Schedule

Kevin Harvick may not be completely finished with Nascar racing after all. The 60-time Cup Series winner revealed on the “Dale Jr. Download” that he will consider competing in the Xfinity Series or the Craftsman Truck Series.

“I think that’s something I would have to lean on somebody like [Dale Earnhardt Jr.] to say, ‘Is that worth doing it?’” Harvick said in the interview with Dale Earnhardt Jr. “I think the Xfinity stuff is something – I want to make sure that I do a really good job for FOX. Until I get done with that, and once I get done in June and say, ‘Maybe we can fit this in; this looks like a good weekend and we could do it?’

Earnhardt has run one to two Xfinity Series races per year since he retired from full-time Cup racing at the end of the 2017 season. Now, Harvick may follow suit after he evaluates his life following Nascar on Fox’s broadcast throughout the first half of the year.

Harvick won the 2001 and 2006 Xfinity Series championships with Richard Childress Racing, as well as the 2014 Cup Series title with Stewart-Haas Racing.

From 2004 through 2011, Kevin Harvick Incorporated fielded entries in the Xfinity Series. His team earned 10 wins through that span, including five victories by Harvick himself.

KHI’s Truck Series team, which opened its doors in 2001, saw more success. He rapidly built the team with Ron Hornaday Jr. becoming a Nascar Hall of Famer through his success with KHI. Hornaday won the 1996 and 1998 championships with Dale Earnhardt Inc., but it was Harvick’s team that solidified his legacy. Hornaday won the 2007 and 2009 championships with KHI.

And, of course, Harvick won 13 Truck Series races in his own equipment over the years.

If Harvick returns to racing, it is unknown what organization he would race with. He did point out that he would like to compete for a team with a spot locked into a race.

“The driving piece for me is still there,” Harvick said. “I don’t know what that means yet or what I’m going to race or what that exactly consists of. It won’t be a lot.

“I’m not sure yet. The door is open. I’m not going to drive Cup ever again. I can’t be competitive, I can’t make myself go there and say, ‘I’m looking for a top 30.’ That’s what it would be. You would be lucky to run 30th.”

Harvick will make his official Nascar on Fox analyst debut during the Busch Light Clash at the LA Coliseum on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024.
