Apple Co-Founder Reportedly Suffered Minor Stroke At Summit In Mexico City

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak was hospitalized Wednesday after feeling ill while attending the World Business Forum in Mexico City, and confirmed to ABC News on Thursday he had a minor stroke and was on the way back to the U.S.

Wozniak told ABC News over text message that he felt dizzy while working on his computer Wednesday morning, then experienced vertigo, which made him unable to walk.

After going to the hospital, Wozniak said he had an MRI that showed he had a “minor but real stroke.”

He told ABC News on Thursday he was no longer in the hospital, and traveling back to the U.S.

Wozniak did not immediately respond to Forbes’ request for comment.

Wozniak, also called Woz, co-founded Apple with Steve Jobs in 1976, and designed the company’s first line of products — Apple I and II. He received the National Medal of Technology from then-President Ronald Reagan in 1985, and was inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame in 2000. That same year, he received the Heinz Award for Technology. Recently, Wozniak warned about the dangers of AI, and said as the technology becomes more advanced, it could be used in malicious ways such as online scams and misinformation. Wozniak told the BBC he thinks AI should be regulated and its content should be labeled. In March, he joined other tech leaders, including Elon Musk, to sign an open letter calling for a pause in AI development.
