Google Assistant to Incorporate AI Chatbot Bard for Personalizing Users’ Experience

Assistant with Bard is still an early experiment. In the upcoming days, it will be available for early testers, so that Google can collect feedback before bringing the service to the public over the next few months.

Google Assistant, Google’s AI-powered voice assistant for Android devices, is incorporating a conversational AI tool Bard. The new service has been introduced by Google at yesterday’s Made By Google live event. Called Assistant with Bard, the tool is powered by generative AI and combines Bard’s generative and reasoning capabilities with Assistant’s personalized help.

Google VP of Assistant / Bard Sissie Hsiao commented:

“While Assistant is great at handling quick tasks, like setting timers, giving weather updates, and making quick calls, there is so much more that we’ve always envisioned a deeply capable personal Assistant should be able to do. But the technology to deliver it didn’t exist until now.”

The assistant will be able to dive into a user’s Google apps, like including Gmail, Docs, Drive, Maps, YouTube and Google Flights, to offer tailored responses to queries on an opt-in basis. This will be possible due to the updated Bard version released in September. The new features of the Bard chatbot included double-checking the answers, integration with Google’s own apps and services mentioned above, and support for more languages of the Bard interface.

“We’re building Assistant with Bard to be a more personalized helper that’s integrated with some of the Google services you already use, like Gmail and Docs – making it even easier to stay on top of the most important things in your life,” stated the company.

According to Google, Assistant with Bard will react to text, voice or images and will even be able to help take actions for a user. Completing various tasks, such as planning trips, finding emails, creating lists, or writing social posts, will be much easier. The whole experience will be enhanced with a completely new way to interact with a user’s phone. For instance, a user who wants to share a picture on social media can just overlay Assistant with Bard on top of it and ask the assistant to write a social post. The response to the inquiry will be based on the context of the picture. It is said that:

“It can hear through the microphone. It can speak to you through voice output. It can see through your camera. And it can even take actions to help you out. And of course it’s on the device that you have with you at all times, which is your phone.”

Assistant with Bard is still an early experiment. In the upcoming days, it will be available for early testers for both Android and iOS, so that Google can collect feedback before bringing the service to the public over the next few months.

Initially, only selected markets will have access to Assistant with Bard. Google has not specified which markets it will reach first and which languages will be available.
