Eugénie Le Sommer Offers Olympique Lyonnais The Win Against Paris Saint-Germain

Three weeks after their victory in the Trophée des champions, a solid Olympique Lyonnais (OL) once again claimed the scalp of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the Parc des Princes and joined Paris FC, who defeated Fleury 91, at the top of D1 Arkéma.

This Sunday, Paris Saint-Germain hosted Olympique Lyonnais for the count of the second weekday of the French league.

A clash at the top between two teams who kicked off their new season with a victory. After a high-intensity start to the match symbolized by a big battle in midfield, the Fenottes found the net on a set piece.

Standing at the far post, Damaris Egurrola assisted Eugénie Le Sommer who catapulted the ball into the back of the net successfully ending a nice play (0-1, 20’).

Pushed by their supporters, the Parisiennes put the pressure on to quickly come back to the score, but came up against a well-awake Christiane Endler.

With seven saves each, the Chilean goalkeeper Christiane Endler and her French counterpart Constance Picaud stole the spotlight from the forwards and produced one of their best ever matches, with a slight advantage for the Chilean who managed to keep a clean sheet and contributed to her team’s win.

Bompastor Praises Le Sommer

“I’m clearly satisfied with the result, but it’s never easy to play a match, especially against Paris after returning from the international break. For two reasons. First of all, on our side, the staff and I don’t have time to work. We only had one session on Saturday with the full squad. Obviously, there is a lot of fatigue. I have players who returned on Thursday from the other side of the globe so it is not easy in the preparation, but I’m very satisfied with the result.

Satisfied with the result against PSG, Sonia Bompastor was impressed by her International forward, “her return to the French team boosted her mentality and confidence. She is off to a thunderous start to the season, being very efficient. I’m very happy because I know she went through more difficult times, but she didn’t give up. She deserves it.”

Prêcheur Wants More

For his first match as the Head Coach since his appointment in place of his father Gérard, Jocelyn Prêcheur couldn’t hide his “disappointment” after this new setback against the Fenottes, but he is ambitious for what’s coming, as he believes that PSG are finally finding the balance they were missing.

“A defeat at the Parc remains a defeat. There is a feeling of frustration. We showed a more conquering face in the second half. We are working on that. But today, we wanted more,” he admitted after the match.

Prêcheur concluded on a more positive note, “we need to take a step forward for these promises to come true. I tried to instill a new state of mind. The tactical discipline will not be enough, we have to be stronger mentally. If we want to go higher, we have to find consistency. We have talent in the squad. It’s a shame if we don’t show it.”

• For her first match with the capital club, Tabitha Chawinga was impactful and dangerous. The attacker caused trouble for the Lyon defense on many occasions.

• If it weren’t for Christiane Endler’s marvelous match, Selma Bacha would have surely won the match’s MVP award.

18′: Bacha left-footed 30 meters shot goes into the top corner but Constance Picaud pushes the ball back onto her crossbar and manages to catche the ball.

22’: Lindsey Horan is fouled by Sandy Baltimore. Bacha finds the head of Damaris in the area who puts the ball back for Le Sommer, who then nets the ball home. It is Le Sommer’s seventh goal in a match against Paris (0-1).

24′: The Parisiennes did not wait long to respond. On a free kick, Geyoro is found at the near post and deflects the ball. But with a reflex stop, Endler saves her team.

33′: Tabitha Chawinga enters the Lyon defensive area. Her strike is blocked and returns in front of Grace Geyoro. The PSG Captain shoots but her shot is intercepted by Endler with a tap.

53′: Grace Geyoro is found in the surface. The midfielder turns and hits the near post. Her shot is perfectly saved by Endler, who was having a great match.

59′: Free kick. Damaris’ header was found in the Parisian area. Constance Picaud, well placed at the near post, deflects the ball for a corner.
