Jen Psaki’s MSNBC Show Expands Into Prime Time On Monday Nights

MSNBC’s Jen Psaki will expand her weekend morning show into prime time, taking the 8 p.m. ET time slot on Mondays. Inside with Jen Psaki will debut on Monday nights September 25, with All In with Chris Hayes continuing at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday through Friday nights. It’s not the first time MSNBC has experimented with a one-night-a-week strategy, with The Rachel Maddow Show generating strong ratings on Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET.

Psaki, a former White House press secretary, joined MSNBC in October 2022. Inside with Jen Psaki has been a consistent ratings performer at 12 p.m. ET on weekends, delivering a total audience of 931,000 viewers in August—just beating Fox News Channel’s 922,000 and easily outdistancing CNN (599,000 total viewers).

The show has featured newsmaking interviews with California Gov. Gavin Newsom, New York City Mayor Eric Adams and others. It’s expected she will focus heavily on the emerging 2024 presidential campaign on Monday nights.

All In with Chris Hayes celebrated its 10th year in April, and has been one of MSNBC’s top ratings performers in recent months, with double-digit viewership growth as it consistently challenges longtime ratings leader Fox News Channel. For the past year, a rotating crew of hosts have anchored All In on Monday nights as Hayes has the flexible schedule to focus on an upcoming book and live events for his podcast.

All In has beaten CNN for 17 straight months among total viewers and 4 consecutive months among viewers 25-54, the demographic group most valued by advertisers, according to ratings data compiled by Nielsen. The show was up 21% in August, with a total audience of 1.73 million viewers.
