Key highlights

  • Beyond Boundaries hackathon held by XPLA and Oasys has been completed following a successful Grand Demo Day in Seoul.
  • With a focus on enhancing scalability, interoperability, and user-centric experiences; Oasys had partnered XPLA to run the hackathon.

Renowned blockchain-based game development platform, Oasys in partnership with XPLA, a layer-1 blockchain serving as a hub for digital media content has announced that they have concluded the recently held “Beyond Boundaries” hackathon.

While the hackathon had run smoothly and garnered massive attention from tech enthusiasts and innovators worldwide, the event was wrapped up on September 3rd with its grand finale tagged as the Demo Day event held in Gangnam, Seoul.

According to the announcement, Beyond Boundaries saw an impressive total of 163 participants take up the challenge, among which 90 teams were formed, and after weeks of intense competition, 15 finalists emerged to showcase their unique concepts at the much-anticipated Demo Day.

Among the finalists were three winners, chosen based on their solutions’ blockchain compatibility, creativity, feasibility, and user impact. These winning standards were determined by a distinguished panel of judges. The panel included luminaries from XPLA, Oasys, HAECHI LABS, Yooldo, Marblex, Xangle, GroundX, KDDI, Nexon, and Hashed.

Several projects at the hackathon focused on the use cases for ERC-6551, a standard for token-bound accounts, with the goal of enhancing interoperability between multiple blockchains and improving the user experience. This seemed to have impressed the judges more.

Beyond Boundaries to Enhance the Gaming and Web3 Ecosystem

Serving as a beacon for exceptional talent, thereby attracting a diverse array of novel ideas, the web3 hackathon came up as a response to XPLA and Oasys’ shared vision to address complex challenges in the web3 ecosystem and enhance the gaming experience to new heights.

Paul Kim, representing XPLA, expressed his enthusiasm on the remarkable hackathon, saying, “The ideas brought forth at Beyond Boundaries will help in tightly integrating various mainnets, propelling the web3 industry and community forward. This hackathon brings us one step closer to realizing the boundless possibilities and future of web3.”

Dominic Jang, Head of Business Development at Oasys, emphasized on the significance of the event, saying, “It was indeed a great opportunity for game companies and chain operators to meet talented builders that are readily working on critical hurdles game companies and blockchain businesses face. It’s essential to tackle the hurdles to create the paths for game companies to use blockchain technologies when deploying games.”

It appeared that the hackathon fulfilled its mission of showcasing projects which had the potential to enhance scalability, interoperability, and user-centric experiences within the blockchain space. The announcement revealed that it had featured three distinct tracks, each focused on addressing different aspects of web3 and blockchain technology.

Track one, titled “Integration Solution Idea/PoC between Layer-1 Nodes,” saw Pandora secure third place with a solution for obtaining desirable GameFi NFTs by combining non-fungible tokens from different Layer-1 blockchains. The runner-up, Loot Adventures, leveraged ERC6551 technology to turn Loot NFTs into pseudo-wallets for enhanced gameplay. Toppin emerged as the track one winner with their innovative use of ERC-6551 to sort profile NFTs from item NFTs, simplifying digital inventory management.

Track two, themed “Ideas for Blockchain Coding Plugin Format (module genre: game, NFT),” witnessed the Zero Protocol Team (ZPT) take third place with their library simplifying wallet implementation in Unity3D and HTML5 games. Yours, the second-place winner, aimed to streamline web3 gaming by consolidating NFT issuance, authentication, synthesis, and trading in a single wallet UI/UX. LYNC secured the first-place position with their SDK designed to make it easy for game developers to integrate in-game assets into Unity and Unreal Engine.

The third track, “Ideas on Know Your Customer (KYC) UX Improvement Solution,” showcased ARGOS in third place, offering a consolidated digital passport linking identity with blockchain wallets for simplified KYC processes. Gameforms took second place by offering KYC authentication to customers through survey questionnaires and in-game missions, rewarding participants with tokens. Mines, the category winner, presented a comprehensive solution for managing accounts and wallets, allowing users to link their game accounts and perform KYC processes.
