NewJeans Joins Blackpink, Itzy And Twice With Their First Top 10 Album In America

For at least the next few hours, NewJeans continue to dominate the Billboard 200 albums chart with their latest EP, Get Up. The set opens atop the ranking of the most-consumed releases in the U.S. with a starting figure of 126,000 equivalent units. The band narrowly surpassed the Barbie soundtrack to clinch the coveted spot, but in the end, they earned their first No. 1, top 10 and placement on the Billboard 200 with Get Up.

As they start at the chart’s peak, NewJeans joins the ranks of several illustrious girl groups from their homeland, marking a significant milestone in their career. In fact, they are just the sixth all-female musical act from South Korea to reach the highest tier on the tally.

Twice currently holds the record for the most top 10 charting albums among their South Korean female peers. The girl group has introduced four separate projects into the region on the Billboard 200. Despite their impressive track record, Twice has narrowly missed the No. 1 position, consistently coming close to achieving the pinnacle of success but missing it. That said, it’s likely only a matter of time before Twice conquers the chart.

NewJeans now shares a this bit of history with Blackpink and Aespa, as both have secured a pair of top 10 placements on the Billboard 200. Blackpink, in particular, stands out as the first South Korean girl group to claim the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, a feat they accomplished just last year with their latest offering Born Pink.

NewJeans’ achievement puts them on the same level as both Itzy and Le Sserafim, two South Korean girl groups who have also managed to earn a single spot within the Billboard 200’s top 10.

The competition among all of these girl groups remains fierce, and this all-time rankings are expected to shift, as they all release new music fairly frequently.
