Musk Implies Billionaire Cage Fight With Zuckerberg Is Still On, But He May Need Surgery Before That

Topline

X owner Elon Musk Sunday signaled that he plans to go ahead with a purported cage fight with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, but said that the exact date may depend on the outcome of a planned health checkup scheduled for Monday.

Key Facts

Talk of a fight between the two Tech billionaires was reignited on Sunday after Musk tweeted that the fight will be live-streamed on X, known formerly as Twitter, and all proceeds from the event “will go to charity for veterans.”

Zuckerberg responded to this on Threads, suggesting a “more reliable platform that can actually raise money for charity” should be used instead—a shot at X’s multitude of recent technical problems and glitches.

Before the live-streaming tweet, Musk said he was “lifting weights throughout the day” to get ready for the fight, without naming the Meta CEO.

Zuckerberg though appeared skeptical that the fight will happen at all, saying he had suggested August 26 as the date for the bout when Musk first issued the challenge, “but he hasn’t confirmed.”

Musk responded by saying the exact date wasn’t set, as he may “require surgery before the fight can happen” and he’s getting an MRI of his neck and upper back on Monday to determine this.

What To Watch For

It is unclear if Musk and Zuckerberg have formally discussed having a fight and if any athletic commission in the country is prepared to sanction and officiate such an event. Musk’s remark about the fight being live-streamed on X also raises questions about the nature of the broadcast and if it will be on pay-per-view.
