Britney Spears has been making headlines recently, but not for her music. Thankfully, she is about to reclaim the spotlight in the same way she has been doing for decades: with her art.
Spears and her frequent collaborator Will.I.Am shocked the world by announcing the release of a surprise joint new single. Fans won’t have to wait long to hear from the superstars, as the new single is set to drop sometime tomorrow, Tuesday, July 18.
The news of this highly anticipated single was revealed by Will.I.Am, the frontman of the renowned pop group, the Black Eyed Peas. He took to his Instagram to share a short video teasing the upcoming release, which included a tiny sample of what the tune might sound like.
The clip begins with the iconic vocals from their previous collaboration, “Scream & Shout,” instantly triggering memories of the duo’s previous chart-topping success. Will.I.Am’s voice resounds with the lines, “You are now, now rocking with / Will.I.Am and…,” before Spears adds her famous “Britney, bitch” line. However, this time, there’s a twist as Spears confidently follows up with the words, “Mind your business, bitch!,” suggesting an updated take on her renowned catchphrase.
Online rumors have been circulating in the past few days, speculating that the new single might be titled “Mind Your Business,” but that has not been confirmed. It’s also not clear if this is the first taste of an album for one or both artists or a standalone track.
This isn’t the first time that Spears and Will.I.Am have joined forces creatively. In the past, they collaborated on “Scream & Shout,” a massive hit that catapulted both stars to the top of the charts globally. Additionally, Will.I.Am has produced several of Spears’ tracks, including “Big Fat Bass” and most of her album Britney Jean, which featured the hit song “Work Bitch.” Their successful history of working together has only intensified the anticipation surrounding this latest joint single.
For Spears, this new release marks her first solo endeavor in almost a year, since her collaboration with Elton John on “Hold Me Closer.” Will.I.Am is apparently currently taking a break from the Black Eyed Peas to focus on releasing solo music. Recently, he dropped a single with Lil Wayne titled “The Formula” and is now seems ready to reach even higher with Spears in tow.
