Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour Is The First In History To Hit $900 Million

Elton John’s legendary Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour continues to make history, as it has now passed the $900 million ticket sales milestone, according to Billboard. In doing so, it has become the first to ever reach that massive sum, and it’s not even over just yet.

In January 2023, the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour secured its place in music history as the highest-grossing tour ever, according to Billboard’s Boxscore. This respected ranking system, used by the magazine to track and evaluate tours based on their grosses, placed Elton John’s tour ahead of the immensely successful Divide Tour by Ed Sheeran, which amassed a staggering $776.4 million in ticket sales.

Continuing its trailblazing journey, the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour became the first-ever tour to surpass the $800 million mark not long ago. Now, with the cumulative gross reaching an astounding $910.4 million, the tour has broken yet another barrier by becoming the first tour to surpass the incredible milestone of $900 million in ticket sales.

Although the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour is nearing its conclusion, it shows no signs of slowing down. With several remaining shows yet to report, the tour is poised to further solidify its already record-breaking run. These final performances are anticipated to generate an estimated $15 million to $20 million, capping off the tour with an exclamation point and elevating its historic financial success even further.

While John may hold this bit of history for now, it seems he won’t own it forever. Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour started months ago, and since then, it has racked up more than $300 million in grosses, and the singer-songwriter is just getting started. The run is expected to pass $1 billion before it’s over in 2024, at least, that’s what current projections suggest. That means that at some point next year, Swift may top this current record.

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour began in September 2018 and is expected to conclude in just a few days, on July 8. The trek is being marketed as John’s last, though he has stated he isn’t retiring from writing, recording and releasing music, just traveling around the world to perform.
