TikTok Announces Its Streaming Music Platform, TikTok Music

TikTok, the popular social media platform renowned for its viral short-form videos, has made its intentions to dominate the music industry known with its latest announcement. On Thursday (July 6), the company revealed its plans to launch a brand new music streaming service, signaling its entry into the competitive and some might say oversaturated music streaming industry.

With an initial rollout in Indonesia and Brazil beginning today, TikTok Music aims to captivate users by offering not just the same library of artists, albums and songs that the other major players have, but also an immersive and interconnected music experience.

The new premium-only service seamlessly integrates with users’ existing TikTok accounts, enabling them to listen to, share, and download the tracks they discover on the platform. Once they synchronize their profiles, users can effortlessly transition from creating videos to curating personalized playlists. This innovative approach sets TikTok Music apart from its competitors and introduces unique features like sing-alongs, swipe-based music discovery, and more. Instead of just offering music, the company smartly connected some of the most popular features of TikTok and brought them to the fledgling streaming music platform.

TikTok Music has wasted no time and is immediately available to users in both Indonesia and Brazil. As an incentive for early adopters, TikTok Music is offering a one-month free trial to all subscribers, allowing them to explore the service’s offerings and engage with its diverse catalog of music.

With the introduction of TikTok Music, the company is reshaping its musical component and, as a result, will be discontinuing its existing streaming music platform, Resso. Launched in March 2020, Resso was only accessible in a handful of nations. Now, TikTok’s latest move signifies a strategic shift towards a more unified and comprehensive music experience for its users.

TikTok’s entry into the music streaming market places it in direct competition with established industry giants such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. By leveraging its massive user base and unmatched engagement levels, TikTok aims to differentiate itself by offering a combination of innovative features and seamless integration with its already massively popular video-sharing platform.
