Binance and Lazio: $100,000 to charity

Today Binance Charity announced the expansion of the Player of the Month (POTM) program, in partnership with S.S. Lazio and Binance Fan Token, by including a $100,000 donation to charitable initiatives as a prize.

Indeed, the final winner of the POTM was Lazio player Ciro Immobile, who decided to donate his $65,000 winnings to Binance Charity’s Tree Millions initiative, while the runner-up was Felipe Anderson, who will donate $35,000 to Binance Charity’s fundraising efforts to support earthquake victims in Turkey.

Binance Charity and Lazio

Binance Charity and Lazio Sports Club are working together to promote positive change with the Fan Token donation program.

Thanks to LAZIO Fan Tokens, fans have new ways to support their team and their favorite players.

Specifically, the Binance POTM program allows fans themselves to vote each month for their favorite players on a monthly, weekly, per game or over the course of the season basis, and reward them with Binance Fan Tokens.

Therefore, Binance users play a crucial role in choosing their favorite players in this Binance Charity initiative. Indeed, Binance users’ choice of Player of the Month now becomes an innovative way to raise funds to give to charity.

POTM (Player of the Month)

This latest charity initiative further expands the POTM program, with the goal of promoting positive social change.

In fact, the player who accumulates the most POTM titles over the course of the season is given the opportunity to indicate to which charity the first $65,000 prize will be donated, while the second will indicate to whom the second $35,000 prize will be dedicated.

The first seasonal winner of the POTM program-related fundraiser was indeed Ciro Immobile, who indicated Binance Charity’s Tree Millions initiative as the recipient of the $65,000 first prize.

The project aims to combat deforestation, which is a major cause of climate change, so much so that since its launch in 2021 it has already planted more than 295,000 trees in 27 countries.

The donation wanted by Immobile will go specifically to reforestation efforts in Italy, benefiting local communities.

In contrast, the runner-up, Felipe Anderson, listed Binance Charity’s fundraising efforts to support earthquake victims in Turkey as the recipient of the $35,000 prize.

These funds will go to those most affected in Turkey and Syria to support the rebuilding of their lives, in partnership with Mercy Corps and Kizilay (the Turkish Red Cross), after one of the most devastating earthquakes to hit the region in more than a century.

In addition, Lazio players auctioned off their jerseys to raise money for Binance Charity’s Fight Hunger Worldwide project, which is an initiative that to date has helped feed nearly 22,000 people by distributing food in Morocco, Sri Lanka, France, Nigeria and Malaysia.

Money raised from the sales of S.S. Lazio T-shirts will go to raise food for Italy’s most disadvantaged communities this summer.

The commentary

This interactive approach is meant to be an example of the potential of Fan Tokens to engage fans and strengthen their connection with the club and its players, as well as the charitable causes they support.

Helen Hai, Head of Binance Charity, said:

“Web3 technology offers exciting opportunities to revolutionize the way we give to charities. Direct donations in cryptocurrency and the use of NFTs are just a few examples of how blockchain can help do good. Through initiatives like Binance Fan Token, we can leverage the potential of cryptocurrencies to create positive social impact and drive change.”
