Patriots, DeVante Parker Reach Reported Three-Year Contract Extension

DeVante Parker will be staying in the New England Patriots’ plans for 2023 and beyond.

The veteran wide receiver has reached agreement with the organization on a three-year extension that features $14 million in guarantees, as first reported Wednesday by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

The new contract is worth a maximum value of $33 million when factoring in per-game roster bonuses and performance-based incentives, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Parker, 30, had been acquired from the Miami Dolphins last April in an AFC East trade that saw third-round and fifth-round draft selections change hands. Across 13 games, including 11 starts and 51.8% of the offensive snaps, he went on to catch 31 passes for 539 yards and three touchdowns.

The University of Louisville product did so while averaging 15.7 targeted air yards per reception, as tracked by NFL Next Gen Stats, which qualified for second around the league.

His deal now runs through the 2025 campaign.

Parker carried a base salary of $5.65 million during his initial season with the Patriots. He was scheduled for a base salary of $5.7 million next fall before becoming an unrestricted free agent.

The terms were inherited from a previous three-year extension with the Dolphins that brought $30.5 million in new money.

Since entering the NFL at pick No. 14 overall in the 2015 draft, Parker has totaled 369 receptions for 5,266 yards and 27 touchdowns through 106 appearances. A physical, above-the-rim presence on the outside at 6-foot-3, 219 pounds, he set career highs with 72 receptions for 1,202 yards and nine scores in 2019.

Last September versus the Baltimore Ravens, Parker’s 156 yards by way of quarterback Mac Jones fell three yards shy of tying his single-game best. Pro Football Focus charted the “X” receiver with zero drops and ten contested catches by year’s end.

Parker’s upcoming cap number stood at $6.206 million prior to Wednesday’s extension, per OverTheCap.com, with a $100,000 workout bonus and up to $500,000 in per-game roster bonuses. No guarantees remained.

In addition to Parker, New England moves forward with Kendrick Bourne, March signing JuJu Smith-Schuster and 2022 second-rounder Tyquan Thornton atop the projected depth chart. The wideout competition also includes Ty Montgomery, Tre Nixon as well as rookies Kayshon Boutte, Demario Douglas, Ed Lee and college quarterback Malik Cunningham.

The Patriots hosted five-time Pro Bowl and All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins on a free-agent visit as mandatory minicamp concluded. Additional spots on the 90-man roster have yet to be filled as training camp approaches.
