South Korean boy band Ateez hits a remarkable milestone on the U.K. albums chart this week with their latest release, solidifying their position among the most successful K-pop acts in the world.
Ateez’s new EP, titled The World EP.2: Outlaw, enjoys an impressive debut at No. 10 on the Official Charts, a British music industry organization similar to the renowned Billboard charts.
This accomplishment is particularly significant as Ateez becomes only the second male K-pop group ever to enter the top 10 of the U.K. albums chart, according to the Official Charts. The group joins the ranks of just one other all-male vocal ensemble who previously achieved this feat. Until now, it was only BTS, the world-renowned septet, who had managed to secure top 10 placements on the U.K. albums chart.
BTS has had a string of successful releases in the U.K., included among them five top 10 albums. Their chart-topping titles include both Map of the Soul: Persona and Map of the Soul: 7, both of which reached the pinnacle of the U.K. albums chart. They also count quite a few real hit singles in their discography as well.
While the list of South Korean acts who have reached the U.K. albums chart’s top 10 expands when considering all genres, it remains relatively exclusive. Among the notable names is the highly acclaimed girl group Blackpink, with two of their three charting albums breaking into the top 10. Most recently, their album Born Pink soared to the No. 1 position, further cementing their status as global superstars.
It’s worth mentioning that BTS member Suga has also made a notable solo impact on the U.K. albums chart. Apart from his contributions to the group that made him a star, Suga released a solo project titled D-2 which peaked at an impressive No. 7 on the chart.
