Nike’s .SWOOSH Taps Online Game Fortnite to Offer ‘Airphoria’ Virtual Experience to Users

The new partnership will also expose .SWOOSH to Fortnite’s massive gaming community of over 240 million users.

Nike‘s Web 3.0 marketplace .SWOOSH has announced a new partnership with Epic Games’ popular online video game Fortnite. The partnership, tagged “Airphoria”, will be focused mainly on offering game players a virtual experience where they get to be rewarded with digital sneakers for their time on the game.

Nike .SWOOSH to Leverage Fortnite’s Massive Audience

Interestingly, the new partnership will also expose .SWOOSH to Fortnite’s massive gaming community of users. To put that into perspective, Fortnite has seen over 240 million users within the last 30 days alone.

Per the announcement, however, Airphoria is live and Fortnite players can tap into it from now until June 27. This means that within the period, Fortnite players who visit the virtual Air-Max-themed island for at least 10 minutes will get an Air Max 1 ’86 Back Bling digital sneaker within the game.

Furthermore, there is another reward for players who successfully link their gaming account with their Nike account while Airphoria is on. Such players can claim an “Achievement” on .SWOOSH. The achievement, however, cannot be exchanged for money, and neither can it be traded or sold.

For what it’s worth, Nike appears to have a growing relationship with Fortnite. This is because the duo has had some collaborations on several digital items in the past. Some notable past collaborations include Airie and Maxxed Out Max outfits, which can be purchased via the Fortnite Item Shop.

About the partnership, an Epic Games spokesperson shared that Airphoria is just one of many more collaborations to come soon. This is even as Epic Games and Nike are focused on helping players to link their online presence across the board. However, he mentioned that the partnership is not geared toward anything NFT-related. The spokesperson says:

“The connection between Fortnite and Nike doesn’t integrate any NFTs or digital item trading marketplaces into the Fortnite world or its economy.”

The commentary appears to be in line with .SWOOSH’s recent release of its first collection of non-fungible token (NFT) sneakers. According to reports, the collection – Our Force 1 –  surpassed $1 million in primary sales despite delays before its launch.
