Taylor Swift continues to prove her incredible reach on the Billboard charts with multiple hits performing well in a very competitive space. Currently, she is promoting two tracks to radio, including the older song “Cruel Summer” and the more recent “Karma,” both of which are gaining significantly.
“Karma” makes its debut on the Adult Contemporary chart this week, which ranks songs that receive the largest audience at Adult Contemporary radio stations throughout the United States. The single enters the chart at No. 24, marking the only new entry this time around. This achievement is significant for Taylor Swift as it helps her move up on an all-time ranking and nearly match one of the best that has ever done it.
While Swift is widely recognized for her work in pop and country genres, she has also established herself as one of the most successful acts in the history of the Adult Contemporary chart. “Karma” becomes her forty-second track to appear on this particular ranking. When an artist achieves such a high number of entries on a single chart, it signifies their tremendous success, no matter who they are.
According to Billboard, Swift currently holds the record as the female artist with the fourth-most hits on the Adult Contemporary chart. She is only one placement away from tying Celine Dion, who has accumulated 43 hits on the chart. It is highly likely that Swift will reach this milestone soon, although Dion is still actively involved in her music career (even if she can’t really sing anymore due to health issues), leaving room for further competition between the two talented artists.
When looking at all female artists and the history of the Adult Contemporary chart, Barbra Streisand holds the lead with a significant margin, boasting an impressive 62 hits. Dionne Warwick follows in second place with 44 hits. While Swift may have the potential to match and surpass Warwick in the future, she still has a considerable way to go before she can challenge Streisand’s record.
The version of “Karma” that reaches the Adult Contemporary chart is the solo take, which is not the one that millions are now familiar with. Swift re-released the tune recently with rapper Ice Spice on board, and it has become a major win on the Hot 100 and the Pop Airplay chart. The solo edition is what was sent to DJs and programmers at Adult Contemporary stations, so that’s the one charting.
